Inspired by ‘Kneeling Woman’ after Wilhelm Lehmbruck

Camphor Laurel Timber with Ebonised Red Cedar Base

The sculpture ‘Kneeling Woman’ by Wilhelm Lehmbruck 1881-1919 inspired this piece. Made fro a piece of Camphor Laurel (Cinnamomum camphora) an introduced species that is considered a weed in many parts of Australia but nevertheless its a fabulous carving timber. This sculpture with a hand tooled finish measures 510mm and is mounted on an ebonized red cedar base. Being only 75mm deep it was an enjoyable exercise in deep relief carving.
